Blog Admin

I've altered the feed address in Feedburner to take account of the name change of the blog. Hopefully that won't cause problems for people and all will work by magic. If not - then the new feed address is up in the corner and also here.

Too much to say...

We're having a lazy day today - doing little or nothing all day, which means I finally get a chance to update. Hooray! Of course, now I have too many posts in my head that will never work together and will make this long and boring so I'm just going to ignore all that in favour of random updates.

I left Law37 a couple of weeks ago. Which is sad as I really enjoyed working on the project that Guy, Shane, Juliette and I started back before Christmas. I just don't have the time to devote to it anymore with my new job at UCSF. I'm really excited to see how it's going to turn out and how much money the team is able to raise for CRUK. Hopefully at the very least it acts as proof-of-concept for other ARG-designers to work with charities. It's been hard work and there's still a lot to do. Good luck fellas!

We're starting to settle in a bit more here, having furniture in the flat has made a significant difference. Our hips don't hurt anymore. And the airbed is exiled to the bottom of the cupboard, only to come out for hapless visitors. We've Blik'd the walls with two Threadless designs: We're Not Savages and Let's Go Parasoling. I've only put up the simple ring designs before so these intricate multi-coloured one's were quite a challenge - Bluessinger's blogged about them and has pics of the end result. I don't remember any shouting. I'm incredibly placid and patient (though those parasols were a bugger to line up).

Neil Gaiman's been busy and I've got two things to look forward to from him- The Graveyard Book is out soon (I think we might go to the signing in SF - I don't think I've been to one before, I'm curious to know what goes on so that I can prepare for Karen's. She's going to write a [best-selling] novel and I'm going to be a kept man. That's my plan anyway). Also the Coraline movie's coming out too. I have the Subterranean Press edition, which is beautiful - they make covetable editions of books, and the story is perfect for reading out loud (I know, I've done it. Though it's probably an advantage if you have Gaiman's lugubrious tones. Yes that was an excuse to use the word lugubrious). I need to brush up on my Vincent Price for The Graveyard Book I think.

One of the Coraline featurette's is below - it's being filmed in stop motion (by the man behind The Nightmare Before Christmas) and in 3D. Which is exciting in itself. 3D, 3D? But that's 6D?! It's definitely going to be the best 6D film this year.

One final thing to look forward to - mum and dad are visiting in September, our first visitors. Mum's trying to find a way to smuggle in tea-bags, custard creams and orange squash (of all the things that American supermarkets don't have that's the most bewildering. There's a whole aisle devoted to different flavours in the UK! Though not as bewildering as trying to explain what squash is - "It's erm, orange-flavoured concentrate, though I don't think there's oranges in it. And you add water and drink it. And there's often Sodium Benzoate in it. You can get Ribena-flavoured ones too", "What's Ribena?", "Oh no!") so they may not make it through customs.

Finally - I learned a new word this week: caseous. It means cheesy. As in In caseous lymphadenitis, the lymph nodes turn into a soft, dry, crumbly mass resembling cheese, usually due to tuberculosis or a related infection. Yum.
